Le 26 août 1977, le Québec affirmait son identité francophone en adoptant la Charte de la langue française. Camille Laurin permettait ainsi au français de devenir la langue des affaires, de l’éducation, de la culture et de l’État. À cette époque, le Québec était la seule province officiellement bilingue dans ses institutions. Le français était relégué souvent comme deuxième langue, particulièrement en affaires. La Charte de la langue française a redonné ses lettres de noblesse à la langue de Molière.

On August 26, 1977, Quebec affirmed its Francophone identity by adopting the Charter of the French Language. Camille Laurin made it possible for French to become the language of business, education, culture and government. At the time, Quebec was the only province with officially bilingual institutions. French was often relegated to second language status, particularly in business. The Charter of the French Language restored the language of Molière to its rightful place.
